Attend an Event
We hold many fundraising events from coast to coast throughout the year to raise awareness of Marfan syndrome and related conditions and to raise critical funds to support our work. Our events include formal Heartworks Galas, family-friendly Walks for Victory, online cocktail hours, and local events arranged by volunteer leaders. Each and every event is important and helps us further our mission.
Our educational events include our four-day conference and various regional symposia. These bring together individuals, families, and medical experts for information and support for the Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, VEDS, and related conditions community.
The Heartworks Gala is one of the Foundation’s signature events. Founded nearly 25 years ago by former Board chair Karen Murray, the first Heartworks was a small event held at a fashion showroom in New York City. Since then, Heartworks has become a star-studded event, attracting 500 or more in some of the most exquisite locations in New York, and expanding to other cities, including St. Louis, Houston, and Chicago.
These galas give the Foundation an opportunity to recognize leaders in our community; we have honored some of the world’s leading medical experts on Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, and VEDS, critical business leaders, and other volunteers who have made significant contributions that have advanced the Foundation’s mission. They also provide attendees with great entertainment and a lot of fun.
Through corporate support, live and silent auctions, and community leadership and participation, Heartworks has raised more than $15 million since its inception. This funding is critical to the Foundation’s programs and services in the areas of education, patient support, and research.
Heartworks New York City
Heartworks New York City has been going strong since 1998. It has featured incredible performances from Broadway legends, including Ann Reinking, Joel Gray, Chita Rivera, Bebe Neuwirth, Patty Lupone, Mandy Patinkin, and many more. Heartworks St. Loius
Heartworks St. Louis was established in 2009 by Dr. Alan Braverman and his wife, Rebecca. A member of the Foundation’s Professional Advisory Board and Board of Directors, Dr. Braverman is a world-renowned medical expert on Marfan syndrome and related conditions. He is director of the Marfan Syndrome and Related Disorders Clinic at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and has family connections to Marfan as well.
Heartworks Houston was held for the first time in 2021 as a Mask-erade Ball. It is a true partnership supported by our lead volunteers in Houston and the many hospitals in Houston that collaborate with the Foundation, including Baylor-St. Luke’s, Texas Children’s Hospital, and UT Health.
Heartworks Chicago held its inaugural event in 2022 and it was a tremendous night – with a sold-out room that enjoyed an amazing live band, fun live auction, and incredible fundraising success. Together with our hospital partners, Northwestern Medicine and Robert & Ann Lurie Children’s Hospital, our volunteer leaders showed their relentless commitment to the Foundation’s mission.
Evening with Heart
Evening with Heart, created in New York, is a cocktail party that provides opportunities to socialize with friends and support The Marfan Foundation. Less formal than our Heartworks galas, Evening with Heart nonetheless provides both a good time and critical funding for the Foundation’s programs and services, as well as research. In addition to our New York events, we have held Evening with Heart in Scottsdale, Raleigh, Chicago, and San Francisco.
The Foundation’s virtual events provide a wonderful opportunity for the community to get involved in our special events regardless of where in the world they live. Like our other special events, our virtual events are fun and engaging, and they raise important funds for the Foundation.
Some of our most successful virtual events have been our (Un)Corked events and VEDS Birthday Bash.
(Un)Corked, gives people an opportunity to receive the various wines in advance and learn from a sommelier from a winery. Our (Un)Corked chocolate events are also popular. These give people an opportunity to receive specialty chocolates in advance and learn from chocolatiers while viewing our online program (and tasting the chocolates!).
We celebrated the first “birthday” of The VEDS Movement, founded in 2020, with a virtual Birthday Bash in October 2021.
