On Friday, September 26, the Marfan Foundation was recognized among only five non-profit publications as a finalist in the “Print Publication” category at PR Daily and Ragan Communications Non-Profit Communications Awards.

Susan Benvenuti

Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications for the Foundation and its divisions Susan Benvenuti accepted an “Honorable Mention” award on behalf of the Foundation for her work as Executive Editor and Lead Writer of Connective Issues.

“The goal of Connective Issues is that every story offers a lifeline, whether it’s highlighting promising research, offering pathways to connection, providing medical insights, or lifting up the unique voices of our community. Our hope is that each story reminds those living with Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, VEDS, or a related condition that they are not alone and there is real hope for a brighter future,” said Benvenuti.

According to Ragan Communications the awards are held “To celebrate the communicators and campaigns powering change in the nonprofit sector. Finalists, colleagues and champions of purpose-driven storytelling came together to shine a spotlight on the strategies and initiatives making a real difference. The luncheon highlighted work that not only raised awareness but also inspired action, built communities and advanced missions that matter.”

Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for the Marfan Foundation and its divisions and Contributing Strategist for Connective Issues April Dawn Shinske said the recognition is shared with “every member of the greater Foundation family.”

“Our community members’ stories are what make Connective Issues an engaging, informative, and warm-spirited publication. When we pair those compelling stories with Susan’s wonderful oversight of the magazine, and Kim Fischer’s brilliant graphic designs, we win every time someone reads Connective Issues, learns something new, or feels more deeply linked to our mission,” said Shinske.
